| Why you don't ever want a real estate agent's lock box on your door, |

|
Dear Reader, We stopped running the ad on this issue's back
cover in 2003, after a couple of real estate agents complained
about it, but are resurrecting it again to make people aware
of the risks they're taking when they allow a lockbox on their
door. Recently a prominent real estate agent in Norwich, VT, Robert McLaughry, was arrested and charged with a felony charge of unlawful trespass after being caught in someone's home. He was discovered by the homeowner's 21 year old son (ref: Valley News, April 23, '08). We know of another incident in So. Carolina, several years ago, where a real estate agent's relative had taken his lock box key, got a moving van and helped himself to the contents of several homes... In this era of identity theft, it's simply not wise to
allow strangers access to your home when you're not there.
And if you have school-age children with a house key, think of
their safety, too! Of course, we feel selling by owner is the best way to ensure your home isn't being entered without your knowledge. In addition to saving you an enormous amount of money in commission fees, selling by owner maintains your privacy, dignity, and sanity! |
